Four young men travelling home after helping in the battle against wildfires in central British Columbia are dead after a fiery head-on crash, police and provincial officials said Wednesday.RCMP Cpl. HOUSTON (AP) — The debate over whether a Black high school student in Texas should be serving in-school suspension for wearing twisted dreadlocks to class intensified this week as the student’s family and his school district both took legal action.Darryl George, 17, a junior at Barbers Hill High School in Mont Belvieu, has been serving an in-school suspension since Aug. 31 at the Houston-area school. School officials say his dreadlocks fall below his eyebrows and ear lobes and violate the district’s dress code. George’s mother, Darresha George, and the family’s attorney deny the teenager’s hairstyle violates the Barbers Hill Independent School District dress code and have accused the district of violating a new state law that outlaws racial discrimination based on hairstyles. The new law, the CROWN Act, took effect Sept. 1. On Tuesday, Darresha George and her attorney filed a formal complaint with the Texas Education Agency, alleging that Darryl George was being harassed and mistrea...

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- People stopping by the Texas Harm Reduction Alliance's outreach van -- which was parked near the Lady Bird Lake Hike and Bike Trail Wednesday -- might be given sterile drug supplies or drug testing strips. The problem? Some of those supplies are considered drug paraphernalia and are illegal in Texas. "Despite the fact that there are study after study after study showing the positive health impacts and community impacts of being able to distribute these supplies," said Lily Hughes, outreach team lead with the THRA. Theater review: ‘Beetlejuice’ musical addresses death with laughter and levity

“Welcome to a show about death.”And it’s about time, too. I’ve been waiting for a piece of theater that comically confronts the inevitability awaiting us all. As we approach the 7 million mark for deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic, I’ve been really hoping that we can dispense with the denial and not pretend that it never happened, as history books suggest was largely the case with the 1918 flu epidemic that killed about 50 million people.Justin Collette as Beetlejuice and the tour company in the national touring production of “Beetlejuice,” a musical adaptation of the Tim Burton film about a ghost couple trying to haunt away the new owners of their home.
