Ask Amy: Dating is tough; social media makes it tougher

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 10:41:57 GMT

Dear Amy: I am a 45-year-old divorced woman with a fairly active social media presence. After my divorce, I dated someone with no social media, so it was easy. After that ended, I met someone through a friend. He immediately suggested that we connect on Facebook. We’ve been out quite a few times and it’s been great, but he’s dating other people. That’s fine — and I’m open to seeing other people, too.I’m not even sure of my feelings for him, but seeing posts about his various dates and his active social life makes me uncomfortable.I can tell who else he’s dating from his posts. It makes me curious and jealous in a way that I don’t like. What do people these days do about social media when they’re dating, but not settled?Should I mute him? Not connect with people on social media until the relationship is serious?I know people talk about social media being toxic to teenagers, but I think the age range should be extended! What’s the protoc...

“If you don’t think too good, try not to think too much.” — wisdom attributed to the late Yogi Berra.Today’s declarer looked too deeply into the play of a slam, or maybe not deeply enough. At 6NT he won the first diamond in dummy and pondered how to attack the clubs. Taking the ace, then leading to the jack would cost if East had a low singleton, but a first-round finesse with the jack would lose only if West had a singleton queen. So South led the deuce of clubs to his jack at Trick Two — holding himself to two club tricks. The heart finesse won later, but he went down.CAN PLAY SAFESouth didn’t think too good. If the heart finesse loses, South needs four club tricks. But if East has the king of hearts, South can play safe for three club tricks.South should lead a heart to his queen at the second trick. When the finesse wins, he leads the king of clubs. If East-West played low clubs, South would lead a second club, planning to play dummy̵...

BALTIMORE (AP) — Frustrated after losing two straight at home, the Baltimore Orioles won another close game to regain some of the momentum they had before the Texas Rangers came to town.Austin Hays singled in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning to cap a three-hit performance, and Baltimore squeezed past Texas 3-2 on Sunday to avert a three-game sweep. After winning three in a row at Toronto and taking two of three at Yankee Stadium, the Orioles were outscored 17-5 by Texas in the first two games of the series. They entered the finale in danger of being swept for the first time this season.Instead, Baltimore got a much-needed victory.“It’s a great win,” manager Brandon Hyde said. “It’s always tough to get swept.”The Orioles could have fallen apart after Texas tied the game in the eighth. But they bounced back to improve to 10-6 in one-run games and clinch a winning record in May after negotiating a month that included Atlanta, Tampa Bay, the Angel...
